The AusDevPortal is a one-stop resource for information on Australia’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) investments. It provides searchable access to financial, statistical, and performance data, along with related documents. The portal reflects the Australian Government’s commitment to greater accountability and transparency in its international development program.
The portal consolidates much of Australia’s aid information in one accessible location. This first phase includes 2022-23 data, with plans for enhanced data and functionality in future phases.
Investment-level data and documentation is available on the portal and is sortable by location, sector group, or policy marker. Australia’s reports to the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI), annual investment performance ratings and Tier 2 results indicator narrative case studies are also included.
Information is excluded if it is not within the current reporting period (financial year 2022-23) or if it falls under DFAT’s sensitivity criteria, as determined by the Development Transparency Policy Steering Group (DTPSG). This includes data that might compromise security or privacy. Investments that did not have a financial transaction in the 2022-23 financial year are not on the portal.
The IATI Standard is an international benchmark that promotes transparency and comparability across nations providing foreign development assistance. Using this standard helps align Australia’s reporting with other international donors.
In the initial phase, the portal will include links to documents such as Investment Design Documents and Independent Evaluation Reports, where they are available for investments with financial transactions in 2022-23.
No, portal data is based on DFAT's IATI activity file, which will be updated annually.
To ensure data accuracy and consistency with official reporting standards, updates are made based on financial year data rather than live updates.
The portal’s initial release includes data for the 2022-23 financial year. It will be updated with 2023-24 data once available, and then each subsequent financial year.
DFAT investment managers complete annual performance assessments for individual investments using a set of performance criteria (effectiveness, efficiency, gender equality and disability equity). Each criterion is rated on a 6-point scale. Ratings of 6 (very good), 5 (good) and 4 (adequate) are considered satisfactory ratings; ratings of 3 (less than adequate), 2 (poor) and 1 (very poor) are considered unsatisfactory.
Investment performance ratings are not required for investments valued at less than $3 million; purely administrative in nature (e.g. paying salaries or other administrative costs only); providing core funding to multilateral organisations; have been in implementation for less than six months; or are administered by agencies other than DFAT.
Tier 2 reporting is not required for investments valued at less than $3 million or investments administered by Australian Government agencies other than DFAT. Some investments do not have objectives that align with specific Tier 2 indicators and, therefore, do not have Tier 2 results to report.
Please direct questions or feedback to aidtransparency@dfat.gov.au.
If you have a media enquiry regarding the portal, or about a particular investment, please contact media@dfat.gov.au.
DFAT may directly deliver whole investments or components of investments, covering costs such as salaries. It may also indicate that specific partner details are unavailable as they are not captured within DFAT’s Aid Management System.
The portal uses internationally recognised IATI codes to enhance consistency and comparability between donors and across years. DFAT documentation often utilises DFAT-defined codes for internal alignment.
The portal uses IATI ‘regionals’ which are different from DFAT’s regions. The IATI ‘regionals’ are considered the international standard.
Explanatory notes are provided in the portal Glossary page to clarify these differences.
No, only data related to ODA-eligible investments is reported.
Investments that did not have a financial transaction in the 2022-23 financial year are not on the portal. Evaluations associated with these investments are not available in the Documentation list.
